Deputy Foreign Minister of Mozambique attends IORA meeting with maritime safety in the agenda

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Nyeleti Mondlane will represent Mozambique at the 17th Ministerial Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in Durban, South Africa.

 

At the meeting, ministers will elect a new secretary general for the 2018-2021 term and supervise the transition from the pro-tempore presidency of the organisation to South Africa.

 

Leaders will also assess progress in implementing the actions decided upon at the body’s last meeting, as well as identifying initiatives to strengthen cooperation among member states, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MINEC) received yesterday by AIM details.

 

According to the communiqué, the participation of Deputy Minister Mondlane in the Ministerial Meeting of IORA provides an opportunity to reinforce cooperation between Mozambique and the Indian Ocean countries in various domains, especially maritime safety, which has been on the association’s agenda.

 

Mozambique is a founding member of IORA, an organisation with 21 member states: Australia, Bangladesh, Comoros, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, the Seychelles, Singapore, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, the UAE and Yemen.
