Vale’s Mozambique unit stops using Sena railway after attacks – state news agency

Brazil’s Vale has stopped transporting coal on the Sena railway line from its mine in the western Mozambique after two gun attacks on its trains last week, the state news agency said on Tuesday.

In both attacks, the gunmen fired at the cabin of the lead locomotive, the news agency reported, adding that no-one was killed but a member of the train crew was wounded.

Vale has an alternative route for its coal exports on a new railway to the northern port of Nacala-a-Velha, the agency said.

On Friday, Vale said it has been working with the relevant authorities to ensure that logistic activities on the railway line can safely continue after the attacks.
